TRAFFORD, Pa. (Feb. 6) -- Thiel College Men's Tennis players
Tyrus Horton (Fuquay Varina, N.C./Athens Drive) and
Bret Vilage (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) were named Players to Watch for the upcoming spring season Friday by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Horton, a freshman, shined in the fall trio of contests with a 2-1 mark in singles action. He collected convincing 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2 wins in his first two collegiate matchups against Lycoming and Pitt Greensburg at first singles.
At first doubles, he and Vilage had a 1-2 mark with a 6-2 win over Pitt Greensburg.
Vilage, a junior, went 1-2 in the fall with a 6-0, 6-2 win at Pitt Greensburg at No. 2 singles. Last spring, he posted a 4-8 record in singles play and earned All-PAC Honorable Mention status.
Vilage was 4-8 in doubles as well, with a pair of fall wins along with two in the spring.
The Tomcats open the spring season Feb. 27 for a 5 p.m. non-conference clash at Mount Union.
