2nd annual Tomcat Tennis Tournament a success

GREENVILLE, Pa. (July 15) -- The second annual Tomcat Tennis Tournament sponsored in partnership with First National Bank was held this past weekend at Tomcat Tennis Courts on the campus of Thiel College. The event brought together a competitive field of junior players from across the region and beyond, delivering high-quality tennis and strong community support throughout the weekend.

The Girls 16U singles division final pitted Clara Drahnak (Glenshaw, Pa.) against Carly Weber (Carnegie, Pa.) in a matchup of the top two seeds. In an enthralling battle, Weber came away with the crown, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Both Weber and Drahnak competed in last year's Tournament with Drahnak being a finalist and Weber making it to the semifinals.

All registered players received a 'welcome bag' compliments of GAMMA Sports and Thiel College.

Tournament director Anthony Kobak praised the success of the first-of-its-kind event in the area.

"The level of sportsmanship and talent displayed throughout the event was amazing to see," Kobak said. "I want to thank all the participants and families as well as First National Bank for helping make the tournament a great success. We look forward to the L5 USTA Tournament for Girls 18U coming up in the near future."

The Girls 18U Tournament will take place July 25-26 with registration open through July 16.
