GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College Women's Lacrosse team dropped their season opener to Ursuline College 10-7 in a non-conference contest in Thiel's Rissell-Schreyer Dome Tuesday evening.
The Tomcats fall to 0-1 to start their 2026 campaign, as the Arrows advance to 1-0.
Thiel got on the board first with
Makayla Flock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) converting a free-position chance early to give the Tomcats a 1-0 lead.
Hayden Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) answered shortly after with a goal of her own to tie it up 2-2.
Despite that early promise, Ursuline responded with a trio of first-quarter goals to grab momentum and led 3-2 after the opening period. The teams traded goals in the second and third quarters, with Thiel staying within striking distance with another score from Wightman and freshman
Mia Talley (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City).
In the fourth, Ursuline pulled away with a strong run, netting six unanswered goals to build a 10-4 advantage. Thiel battled back late, with
Camille Turner (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut Area), Talley and Wightman adding scores in the final minutes, but the comeback fell short.
Wightman had a game best three goals, as Talley had two and one assist, both for three points. Wightman grabbed eight ground balls as Talley had five and two draw controls. Flock and Turner each recorded a goal and assist for two points each, Turner with three draw controls.
The Blue and Gold are back in action on Saturday, Feb 21 as they host the La Roche Redhawks at noon.
