GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 22) -- The Thiel College Wrestling team posted a dominant 45-3 victory over Bethany College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Thursday evening on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats rise to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in league play while the Bison dip to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in PAC play.
EJ McCarthy (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) had a forfeit at 125 and
Deshonn Valentine (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) logged a pin (6:49) at 133 over Harrison Spadoni to put the Tomcats ahead 12-0.
McCarthy improves to 4-3 while Valentine sits at 3-4 with his first pin of the season.
Logan Ventura (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) dominated at 141 with an 18-0 technical fall (4:45) over Avan Rosado. Jonathon Bissell won by forfeit at 149.
Ventura improved to 2-5 with his first pin while Bissell sits at 11-4 on the year.
Jacob Potts (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) logged a 21-6 tech. fall (5:23) at 157 over Jeremiah Stallings to improve to 5-4 on the year and 2-0 in duals.
Mequan Maxwell (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) took care of business at 165 with a pin (1:15) to rise to 6-2 and put Thiel ahead 34-0.
Zachery Ward (Girard, Ohio/Girard) logged a 16-0 tech. fall (6:14) over Antonio Christians at 184 to rise to 8-4.
Trenton Mead (Clarendon, Pa./Sheffield) took down Jackson Hodges at 197 with an 11-7 decision to push Thiel's lead to 42-3.
In the most entertaining battle of the night,
Brian White (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) took down Zach Kuneff, a DII transfer, with a 3-2 (10:00) double overtime decision at heavyweight for his first collegiate victory.
The Tomcats are back on the mats Saturday for the Jamestown CC open.
