TRAFFORD, Pa. (Nov. 10) -- Thiel College freshman wrestler
Jonathan Bissell (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week Monday evening.
Bissell placed fifth in a 28-wrestler field at the season-opening W&J Invitational last Saturday at 149 pounds.
Bissell, in his collegiate debut, pinned Vontez Tyus (W&J) in his opening bout in 0:43. He followed that up with another pin (1:40) over Richie Kulessa (Southern Virginia) before falling in the quarterfinals. Bissell pinned a pair of Gettysburg wrestlers in Kyle Collins (0:57) and Danny Carrozza (0:35) in the consolation bracket before taking the fifth-place bout via forfeit.
In total, Bissell logged a 5-1 record on the day with all five wins coming by fall.
The Sharpsville High School product was a state qualifier in his senior year for the Blue Devils and logged over 100 career wins in high school.
Wrestling is back in action Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.
