BEREA, Ohio (Nov. 22) -- The Thiel College Wrestling team placed 11th in a 13-team field at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational Saturday from Lou Higgins Center in Berea, Ohio.
Jonathan Bissell (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville), who was named the PAC Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 10, placed sixth at 149 pounds. He topped Blaine Anspaugh (Manchester) with a 17-5 major decision in his first bout of the day. He moved through to the quarterfinals with a pin (3:25) of Noah Creque (Baldwin Wallace) before falling to Anthony Orlandini (Saint Vincent) by an 18-6 major decision.
Bissell pinned CJ Briner (Trine) in 0:59 and notched one more pin of Dillon O'Keefe (CWRU) in 1:33 in the consolation bracket before falling to Baldwin Wallace's Antonio Shelley by a tight 8-7 decision in the fifth-place bout.
Bissell went 4-2 on the day to improve his record on the year to 9-3 with seven wins by fall.
Deshonn Valentine (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) went 2-2 on the day with a pair of wins in the consolation bracket at 133 pounds. He bested Kolton Ploughe (Manchester) by a 12-7 decision and Seth Merryman (BW) in a 16-7 major decision.

Zachery Ward (Girard, Ohio/Girard) opened his day with a 9-7 decision over Breyden Hill (Muskingum) followed by an 11-9 decision against Trey Tobias (Trine) before dropping his final two bouts of the day.
After dropping his first bout of the day at lightweight,
EJ McCarthy (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) notched back-to-back consolation wins over Behrend's Camden Bruce (pin (0:44)) and Keaton Venarcick (dec. 6-2) before dropping his final bout of the day.
The Tomcats return to action Friday, Dec. 5 as they open PAC play at Hiram in a 7 p.m. dual.
