GREENVILLE, Pa. (June 3) -- Thiel College Baseball players Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth), Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood), Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and Cole Sherwin (Karns City, Pa./Karns City) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team Tuesday afternoon.

The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and must be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically.

Bintrim, a senior first basemen and pitcher, boasted a 3.68 GPA as a biochemistry major. This is his second consecutive year earning Academic All-District status.

On the diamond, Bintrim garnered Honorable Mention All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) status for the second straight year as he logged career highs in average (.325), OBP (.421) and runs (28). He produced 43 total bases and was tied for second on the squad with 17 free passes. On the mound, he became Thiel's all-time saves record holder with 10 as he collected two saves while working a career-high 31.2 innings and K'd a career-best 19.

Brightwell, a junior outfielder, is making his second straight Academic All-District team appearance. He logged a 3.71 GPA as an exercise science major.

Brightwell anchored the Tomcats' defense in centerfield and set career highs in runs (28), hits (48), doubles (eight), triples (three), RBIs (20) and walks (13).

Katon, a graduate starting pitcher, is now a three-time Academic All-District honoree. He logged a 3.73 undergrad GPA and notched a 3.88 graduate GPA in the MBA program.

Katon concluded his Thiel career as the program record holder in innings pitched (260.2) while finishing second in career strikeouts (223) and appearances (59). He racked up a career-high 56 strikeouts in 2025, which was good for sixth most in the PAC.

Like Katon, Morrison ends his career as a three-time Academic All-District team member. A graduate outfielder, Morrison etched a 3.79 undergrad GPA while sporting a 3.90 graduate GPA in the MBA program.

Morrison ended his stint in Greenville second in team history in games played (166) and at bats (600). He totaled 176 hits and collected his 100th career RBI. He logged career bests in 2025 in hits (44) and runs (31) while tying his career mark in walks (12).

Sherwin is making his first All-District team appearance. A junior data analytics major, he sports a lofty 3.95 GPA.

Sherwin anchored the middle infield at short and had a breakout year at the dish by setting career highs in starts (28), at bats (100), runs (15) hits (32), doubles (eight), RBIs (20) and slugging (.400). He ended the season on a six-game hitting streak with eight RBIs and three extra-base knocks.

Baseball finished with a 10-9 league-play mark in 2025 and qualified for the PAC Championship Tournament for the second straight season.
