TRAFFORD, Pa. (Oct. 10 ) -- Six members of the Thiel College Men's and Women's Golf teams were named Players to Watch by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for the upcoming two-round Fall Championships, the league office announced Friday afternoon.
Men's Golf
Eli Nicklas (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy),
Brady Rzodkiewicz (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek),
Jackson Gadsby (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) and
Joe Grundy (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) made the Players to Watch list.
Nicklas posted his best collegiate performance in the Grove City Invitational at Grove City CC on Sept. 29 as he carded a 2-over 74 to tie for 11th.
Rzodkiewicz posted a 7-over 78 to place in the top 20 at the Pitt Bradford Invitational at Pennhills Club.
Gadsby tied for 12th with an 8-over 80 at the Saint Vincent Invitational from Latrobe CC on Sept. 8 while Gadsby had a season-best 9-over 81 at the Grove City Invitational.
Allegheny was picked first with nine first-place votes and 81 points while Washington & Jefferson was second with one first-place vote and 68 points. Saint Vincent (62 points) was third, Westminster (59) fourth and Grove City (55) fifth. Thiel, Saint Vincent and Bethany each tied for sixth with 27 points while Geneva (26) was ninth and Hiram (18) tenth.
Women's Golf
Kelsi Hefner (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and
Emily Eutsey (Jones Mills, Pa./Mount Pleasant) made the list.
Hefner's posted three top-15 finishes on the year. She opened the year with a 90 at the YSU Fall Kickoff to finish 17th and carded a 96 to tie for 12th at the Saint Vincent Invitational.
Eutsey posted back-to-back top-16 finishes at the Thiel Invitational (90) to tie for 12th and the Saint Vincent Invitational (99) to tie for 16th.
Westminster was tabbed as the favorite with nine first-place votes and 99 points while W&J was second with two first-place tallies and 89 points. Allegheny and Grove City tied for third with 72 points. Saint Vincent (56 points) narrowly edged out Thiel (55) for fifth as Geneva (52) slotted in at No. 7. Franciscan (46), Waynesburg (28) and Bethany (26) rounded out the final three spots in the poll.
Looking Ahead
The PAC Golf Championships are split between the fall and the spring, with two rounds taking place in each season. The Fall Men's Championships will take place at Avalon Lakes GC in Warren, Ohio while the Womens' is held at Avalon at Squak Creek in Vienna, Ohio.
The fall rounds for both the men and women are next Monday and Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
