Opening-drive TD not enough for Football at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 18) -- The Thiel College Football team fell 48-6 at Westminster College Saturday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) clash on Memorial Field inside Harold Bury Stadium.

The Tomcats dip to 0-6 (0-4) while the Titans rise to 4-2 (3-1) with their ninth straight series victory.

Thiel came out of the gates strong with a 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive capped on a Keller Herzberger (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake Senior) 1-yard rushing touchdown to lead 6-0. The drive chewed up 6:23 on the games opening possession.

Herzberger completed 6-of-7 passes on the drive for 59 yards. Riley Dunbar (Lyons, Ohio/Evergreen) made a trio of grabs on the drive while Adam Kreais (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell - Loudon) hauled in one grab for 29 yards.

The home side responded with a scoring drive of their own with a successful PAT to lead 7-6. Westminster went on to tally the final 41 points in route to the victory.

Herzberger, the reigning PAC Newcomer of the Week, finished 18-of-34 for 128 yards.

Kreais finished with three grabs for 43 yards while Dunbar, who hauled in the most receiving yards by a Tomcat since 2016 last week, finished with five snags for 30 yards.

Joshua Daniel (Pompano Beach, Fla./Blanche Ely) picked up his fourth forced fumble in as many games. He is tied for the PAC lead in forced fumbles (four). He made a game- and career-best nine tackles (seven solo) and had a career-high-tying two tackles for loss.

Dwayne Simpkins (Hopewell, Va./Prince George) totaled nine tackles (three solo) and had a game-high-tying 2.5 tackles for loss.

The Tomcat defense had a pair of sacks on the afternoon as Simpkins, Deangelo Baker (Memphis, Tenn./Kingsbury), Alexander Mittner (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) and Dylan Ahern (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) each picked up a half sack. Thiel also notched 10 tackles for loss.

Thiel is back in action next Saturday as they host Case Western Reserve for a noon kickoff.
