GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 25) -- The Thiel College Football squad fell 55-7 to Case Western Reserve University Saturday afternoon from Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The loss drops the Tomcats to 0-7 (0-5) while the Spartans improve to 4-2-1 (4-1).
The visitors took control early on defense and special teams as they forced three Thiel turnovers and had a blocked punt, leading to a 24-0 first-quarter lead. Case Western Reserve went on to take a 45-0 lead into the locker room.
The Tomcats found a spark in the third quarter as
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) broke free up the Tomcats sideline for a 47-yard gain. Logan went on later in the drive to scamper home for a 4-yard score to get the Blue and Gold on the board at 48-7.
Logan ran for a game-best 110 yards on 24 carries for his second 100-plus yard rushing performance of the season. He added three catches on the day.
Keller Herzberger (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake Senior) made his third straight start under center and completed 16-of-28 passes for 87 yards.
Riley Dunbar (Lyons, Ohio/Evergreen) made three catches for 37 yards while
CK Kershaw (Bristow, Va./Patriot) had a game-leading five snags for 26 yards.
Matt Jordan (New Castle, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) made a game-best 11 tackles (eight solo) and had a fumble recovery.
Mekhi Carroll (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa Central) totaled seven tackles along with one sack.
Reginald Gordon (Jacksonville, Fla./Terry Parker) had one forced fumble.
The Tomcats hit the road next week for a 1 p.m. PAC clash at Hiram. The meeting will be the first between the two schools since 1989.
