WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Oct. 1) -- The Thiel College Men's Tennis team fell 6-1 at Lycoming College in its fall opener from Brandon Park Tennis Courts in non-conference action.
The Tomcats fall to 0-1 while the Warriors rise to 2-2.
Tyrus Horton () collected a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles in his collegiate debut.
Bret Vilage (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and Josh Myers split the first two sets 6-4 each at No. 2 singles to force a third-set tiebreak. Vilage was edged 10-4 in the third.
Takafumi Sasazaki (Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan/Hozen) dropped a close first set 7-5 at No. 3 singles but ultimately fell 2-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Vilage and Horton dropped a tight 7-5 decision while Trevor Gately and Sasazaki fell 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
The Tomcats return to action next Wednesday against Pitt Greensburg at home beginning at 4 p.m.
