GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 22) -- The Thiel College men's basketball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup with Geneva College 64-41 Wednesday evening on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats fall to 6-10 (5-7) on the year while the Golden Tornadoes rise to 7-9 (5-6).
The Blue and Gold struggled offensively against Geneva's 2-3 zone defense and did not connect on a field goal until
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill),
the newest member of the 1,000-point club, connected on a jumper at the 7:50 mark of the opening half.
Ellerbee contributed 7 points on 2-of-6 shooting and 3-of-4 at the free-throw line to go with four boards and a game-high-tying two steals.
Thiel closed the half on an 8-2 run over the final 3:10 to get within 15 (33-18) at the break.
Khamari Accursio-Harris (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) had 4 points in the run while
Rob Thomas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and
Mike Brown (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) had a bucket each.
Thomas posted a team-leading 12 points on 5-of-10 from the field, 1-of-1 from deep and 1-of-2 at the line to go with six boards. Thomas has notched at least 10 points in 10-of-16 games on the year.
Accursio-Harris pulled down a game-high-tying nine rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end, to tie his season best in offensive boards. He added 6 points, a game-best-tying two blocks and a pair of assists. Brown grabbed five rebounds and had 3 points.
The Golden Tornadoes outscored Thiel 31-23 in the second half to spell the 64-41 final.
Gabriel Gonzalez (Merida, Venezuela/Southwest Miami) totaled 7 of his 9 points in the second half. He went 7-for-9 at the charity stripe for the game, corralled three boards and dished out a pair of helpers.
Thiel's 41 points is the teams lowest total in a game since Dec. 9, 1992, a 57-41 home loss to Kenyon.
Men's basketball returns to action Saturday for a 6 p.m. PAC showdown at Saint Vincent. The
Tomcats topped the Bearcats 73-70 in their first meeting this season.
