Ellerbee eclipses 1,000 career points as Men's Basketball dominates Waynesburg 77-52

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 18) -- Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) eclipsed 1,000 career points with a turnaround jay at the 4:49 mark of the second half as Men's Basketball posted a wire-to-wire 77-52 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. 

Ellerbee is now the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career, joining the likes of A.H Davis (1,683 points), Victor Harp (1,607), Joe Herrmann (1,520), Devon Adams (1,409), Mark Fleischer (1,345), Blair Rozenblad (1,302), Eric Vanderveen (1,177), Jim Mondok (1,172), Bob Anderson (1,149), Ahmad Tejumola (1,108) and Khari Bess (1,066) as members of the exclusive club.

The Tomcats end a four-game skid and rise to 6-9 overall and 5-6 in PAC play while the Yellow Jackets drop to 6-10 on the year and 4-7 in conference play.

The closest the Yellow Jackets got was 6-4 in the opening 4 minutes as Thiel never trailed in the contest. The Blue and Gold used an extended 19-2 run over 5:21 to pull ahead 34-13 on an Ellerbee turnaround jumper with 5:33 left in the half. The newest 1,000-point club member had 5 points in the stretch while Gabriel Gonzalez (Merida, Venezuela/Southwest Miami) pitched in 4. In total, six Tomcats notched buckets during the run.

Ellerbee finished with a game- and season-best 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting, 6-of-8 at the line and 1-of-2 from deep. He coraled a team-leading nine boards and posted game highs in assists (four) and steals (three). 

Gonzalez posted 13 points on 5-of-11 from the field, 2-of-2 at the charity stripe and 1-of-2 from deep to go with three boards. 

The Tomcats took a 41-16 lead into the half on a Khamari Accursio-Harris (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) jumper. The home side held the visitors to a season-low first-half point total as they shot just 23.3 percent (7 of 30) from the field to Thiel's 48.9 percent (15-of-31) in the first 20 minutes.

Accursio-Harris totaled 10 points on 4-of-9 and 1-of-2 each from the line and from deep. He grabbed a game-high-tying four offensive rebounds and finished with five boards for the contest. 

The Blue and Gold took there largest lead of the night on a John Morgan (Indianapolis, Ind./Lebanon) layup with 10:17 left to play to make it 63-32. Morgan contributed 4 points and pulled down six rebounds in 19 minutes of action in reserve. 

A Mike Brown (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) rebound led to an Ellerbee layup with 6:57 remaining to push Thiel's lead to 69-43. Brown finished with a season-high seven rebounds to go with 9 points in his first game back from injury. 

Das Sanders (Dallas, Texas/Fort Worth Christian), who made his first start in nearly two months, posted 6 points on 3-of-6 and pulled down six boards to go with a pair of steals. Anthony Henderson II (Miramar, Fla./Somerset Academy) pitched in 6 points on 2-of-4 while Rob Thomas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) added 6 points on 3-of-3. 

Thiel held Waynesburg to a season-low 26.7 percent (16-of-60) shooting while the Tomcats shot 43.9 percent (29 of 66) for the game. Thiel held the edge in fast-break points (16-4) and points in the paint (32-20).

Men's basketball returns to action Wedneaday when they host Geneva College at 7:30 p.m. in a PAC showdown.
