GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College men and women's track & field teams competed at the Grove City Invitational on Wednesday.
Senior
Quintin Weaver (Rimersburg, Pa./Union) set a new school record in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.65. The previous record had stood since 1996. This was also the fourth time this season that Weaver has either been part of a team that broke a record, or broke one by himself.
For the men's team, the Tomcats had two top-seven finishes in the men's 1,500-meter run.
Brock Newsome (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde) (4:12.11) and
Matt Beuermann (Tasmania, Australia/) (4:26.37) finished fourth and seventh, respectively. The men's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of
Tyrese Ogletree (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area),
John Bresnan (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), Newsome and Weaver finished fifth with a time of 3:36.56.
In the men's field events,
Andre Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Boyd H. Anderson) led the way with a first-place finish in the men's triple jump with a distance of 13.81 meters. Williams also finished fourth in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.51 meters. In the men's javelin throw,
Nicholas Kobielus (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area) recorded a fourth-place finish with a distance of 48.96 meters. In the men's discus throw,
Frank Fugman (Aurora, Ohio/Crestwood) finished eighth with a distance of 38.65 meters. In the men's high jump,
Caleb Learn (Homer City, Pa./Homer Center) finished tied for fourth with a mark of 1.75 meters.
For the women, two Tomcats recorded top-seven finishes in the women's 1,500-meter run.
Hannah Strott (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) (5:10.52) and
Hannah Jones (Clarks Mills, Pa./Commodore Perry) (5:23.60) finished fifth and seventh, respectively. In the women's 100-meter dash,
Kaylee Suarez (Youngstown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) finished sixth with a time of 13.90 seconds. In the women's 200-meter dash,
Tumba Powell (Cleveland, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) finished fifth with a time of 27.14 seconds. In the women's 800-meter run, Thiel had two top-eight finishes with
Lillianna Briscoe (Beaver Falls, Pa./Quigley Catholic) (2:32.88) and
Hannah Jones (Clarks Mills, Pa./Commodore Perry) (2:38.43) finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.
In the women's field events,
Isabelle Iliev (Olian, N.Y./Greenville) recorded a second-place finish in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 33.65 meters. In the women's discus throw,
Brooke Mottley (Rock Creek, Ohio/Geneva) recorded a sixth-place finish with a mark of 33.27 meters. In the women's high jump, Thiel had two top-six finishes with
Kaylee Suarez (Youngstown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (1.52 meters) and
Tumba Powell (Cleveland, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) (1.47 meters) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Alexis McFadden (Kennerdell, Pa./Franklin Area) recorded a fifth-place finish in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.01 meters.
The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday, April 15 when they host the Thiel Tomcat Invitational. Events will start at 10:00 a.m.
