NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) named four Tomcats to the AMCC All-Conference teams on Tuesday.
Senior
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and sophomore
Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) were named to the AMCC Second Team, while freshman
James Cromwell-Young (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) and
Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) were named to the AMCC Third Team.
Smith, who was named to the AMCC All-Conference Third Team last season, led the Tomcats this season with 223 kills, which is 10
th best in the conference, and 2.69 kills per set, which is ninth in the conference. He was also second on the team in digs (202) and digs per set (2.43).
Dies, who was the AMCC Newcomer of the Year and an AMCC Second Teamer last season, was third on the team with 160 kills, and third on the team with 1.76 kills per set. He was also fourth on the team in hitting percentage with .225. He also led the team with 35 service aces, good for fourth in the conference. Dies also led the team with 60 blocks, good enough for seventh in the conference.
In his first season as a Tomcat, Cromwell-Young was fourth on the team with 141 kills. He also played the second most sets this season with 91. He was fourth on the team in points (178.5) and fifth on the team with 1.55 kills per set. He also recorded 52 blocks, third best on the team. Cromwell-Young was also second on the team in hitting percentage (.281).
Also in his first season as a Tomcat, Long led the team in digs with 278, and digs per set with 3.02. Long's 3.02 d/s was second in the conference and is tied for 15
th in all of Division III. Long recorded 22 digs in the Tomcats quarterfinal win over Hiram, which was the third most in a three-set match in all of Division III this season. It is also the most in a three-set match in program history. He also recorded 26 digs in the Tomcats win over Hilbert on March 15. That was the most in a four-set match in program history and is the sixth most in a four-set match in the country this season.
The AMCC named Penn-State Behrend's Phil Pisano the Coach of the Year. Penn-State Behrend's Adrian Martinez and Geneva's Byron Spear were named Co-Players of the Year. Saint Vincent's Shawn McSwiggen was named the Newcomer of the Year.
The Tomcats finished the season 16-13, including 10-3 in AMCC play to clinch an AMCC Men's Volleyball Championship berth for the second straight year. They finished with the third best record in the conference and matched the most conference wins in program history with 10.
