Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) and senior outfielder
Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa./Mohawk) were named to the 2020 Academic All-District 4 Baseball and Softball First Teams Thursday, respectively, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Giesey was an All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Second Team selection in 2018 after recording 43 hits, a .309 batting average and 20 RBIs. A team captain in 2020 and 2019, he was named the PAC Rookie of the Week on April 24, 2017 after hitting .411 (6-of-16) with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
Majoring in business administration and international business, Giesey carries a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average. He is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, qualified for the Dean's List each of his eight semesters and was named to the PAC Spring Academic Honor Roll three times.
Giesey is a member of the following honors societies: Lambda Sigma (sophomores), Les Lauriers (senior service), Chi Alpha Sigma (student-athletes) and Chi Eta Sigma (business).
A three-time All-PAC selection, Woytek earned First Team accolades in 2019. She was also named to the PAC All-Tournament Team in 2019 after the Tomcats finished as the runner-up.
Woytek started all 123 games she appeared in during her career and etched her name in Thiel's record book in multiple categories. She is the program's career leader in runs scored (111) and walks (47). She ranks second in school history in hits (167), tied for fourth in batting average (.409) and fifth in stolen bases (31).
A conservation biology major, Woytek carries a 3.56 cumulative grade-point average. A five-semester Dean's List student, she was a CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District 4 First Team selection in 2019 and twice qualified for the PAC Spring Academic Honor Roll. She is a member of the following honors societies: Beta Beta Beta (biology), Psi Chi (psychology) and Chi Alpha Sigma (student-athletes).
First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
