Tomcats drop two to Titans

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was swept in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader over Westminster College Saturday. Thiel lost the first game 3-1 and fell 7-2 in the second game.

Game one was a pitching duel as both Starters pitched all seven innings. However, Westminster's Joseph Salmen picked up the win over Thiel's Kevin Forrester (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan).

Salmen went seven innings with no earned runs on two hits. Forrester went seven innings with one earned run on seven hits.

The Titans put up two runs in the fifth inning to take a lead they did not give back as the Tomcats left eight runners on base in the game.

In game two the Titans tallied four runs in the second inning to give them a 4-0 advantage after two.

The Tomcats answered in the third with a two-run single by Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) to score Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) closing the gap to 5-2 after three.

Thiel did not score another run after the third and left seven runners on base in the game as they fell 7-2.

Thiel has dropped four straight games after an eight game win streak.

Thiel (11-9, 4-4 PAC) will return to action tomorrow when they take on Westminster on the road. The 9-inning PAC game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
