NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) nine-inning game 3-2 over Westminster College Monday afternoon.
The Tomcats opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) hit a sacrifice fly to score
Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) to give the Tomcats a one run lead.
Westminster answered in the bottom of the first as they scored two runs on two hits to take make it 2-1 in favor of Westminster after one.
In the third with the bases filled
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) walked and pushed
Nick Grice (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) home to tie the game 2-2.
Thiel took the lead on another RBI by Patrice as he hit a two-out double to right field to score
Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) to make it 3-2 after sixth.
Nick Bucci (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) did not allow another run as he went eight innings allowing no earned runs on seven hits.
Matt Gayda (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) entered the game in the ninth and put the Titans down in order to pick up his first save of the season.
Bucci recorded his fifth win of the season.
Thiel snapped its four game losing streak with the win.
Thiel (12-9, 5-4 PAC) will return to action tomorrow when they take on The College of Wooster on the road. The 9-inning non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Wooster comes into the game currently ranked 8
