Tomcats suffer first home loss

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team suffered its first home loss on the season Wednesday afternoon. The loss came at the hands of the visiting Geneva College Golden Tornadoes as Geneva took the nine-inning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game by a final score of 11-5.

Geneva began the scoring in the first with two runs scored in the inning to make it 2-0 after one.

Zach Hudecek (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) singled to left driving in Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) to cut the Golden Tornado lead in after two.

The Golden Tornadoes opened up the game in the fifth inning with four runs in the inning off of RBI's from Joey Luciana and Forrest Beighley. Geneva led 6-1 after five.

The Tomcats pulled within two runs after a three-run seventh inning, which included RBIs from Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan), Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), and Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST). However, two runs proved to be as close as the Tomcats would get as the Golden Tornadoes added five more runs over the final two innings.

Geneva improved to 7-16 overall and 1-8 in the PAC with the win and Thiel fell to 11-7 and 4-2 in the PAC.

Thiel (11-7, 4-2) will return to action on Friday on the road against Westminster College for a PAC nine-inning game before finishing the series with a doubleheader against the Titans at Tomcat Park on Saturday.
