GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team returns to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament for the second consecutive year.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 12-14, in Crestview Hills, Ky. on the campus of first-seeded Thomas More College.
The Tomcats earned the second seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season with a 28-12 overall record and a 17-7 record in the PAC.
The Tomcats will open up the tournament on Thursday against the third-seeded Washington & Jefferson Presidents. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
On the mound, the Tomcats have the lowest earned run average (4.20) and the most strikeouts (218) in the PAC. At the plate, the Tomcats had the most hits in the PAC (424) with a .323 average, good for third-most in the conference.
Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) led the conference in hits (59) with the fifth-highest average in the PAC (.407).
Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) drove in 41 runs and hit five home runs, good for fourth and fifth highest respectively in the PAC.
Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) had the lowest ERA in the PAC (1.81) and opponent batting average (.183) with a 5-1 overall record and the second-most strikeouts in the conference (65).
Kevin Forrester (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was tied for second in wins (7) while
Riley Schwertz (Zelienople, Pa./Freedom) tied for fifth in wins (6).
