BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's tennis team defeated the D'Youville College Spartans 6-3 in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
Thiel won four singles matches and two doubles matches against D'Youville. After dropping the first set to John Nazzarett of D'Youville,
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) won two straight sets to win the match at No. 2 singles. 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Jon Fennick (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock ),
Alex Horvatits (Lancaster, N.Y./Saint Mary's ),
Christian Conrad (Barberton, Ohio/Central Catholic) each won their singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles action, Paunovich and
Cole Duskey (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) defeated Wei Yen Huang and Nick Holmes of D'Youville in No. 1 doubles 8-6.
Eric Mitchell (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) and Horvatits took down Ajay Garg and Bryce Humphrey 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.
Thiel will resume conference action on Monday, April 11 when they travel to Bethany, W.Va. to face the Bison. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
