GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Thiel men's tennis team took on Mount Aloysius College on Monday and used solid performances at every position to score a 9-0-shutout victory.
The win vaults the Tomcats to 10-5 overall. The Mounties fall to 0-6 on the season.
Thiel started quickly as the Tomcats' number one doubles tandem of sophomores
Richard Parks (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) and Collin McAndrew (Dayton, Ohio/General McLane) swiftly disposed of their opponents, 8-0.
Shortly after the number one doubles match ended, the second doubles team of seniors
Shun Kogai (Tokyo, Japan/) and
Shinjiro Todaka (Tokyo, Japan/Hyuga-gakuin ) won their match, 8-2, and the Tomcats had a quick 2-0 advantage.
Freshmen Logan Sturgeon and Trevor Fancher finished off the doubles matches with an 8-1 win at number three doubles.
In singles play, Parks again got the Tomcats started by making quick work of his opponent at number one, winning 6-1, 6-1.
McAndrew was the next Tomcat to take the court as he squared off against Joel Fleegle, defeating him in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Both Sturgeon and Kogai picked up wins at number three and four singles respectively, each winning their matches 6-0, 6-0.
Two more seniors picked up wins on senior day, as
Shinjiro Todaka (Tokyo, Japan/Hyuga-gakuin ) won 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles and
Roger Irby (Transfer, Pa./Greenville) won his second match of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles.
Thiel returns to the courts on Wednesday when they travel to Bethany College. The match is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
