Thiel men's tennis team wins third straight match

ALTOONA, Pa. – Richard Parks (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) won at first singles and teamed with Collin McAndrew (Dayton, Ohio/General McLane) at first doubles in the Tomcats' 6-3 non-conference victory over host Penn State Altoona Tuesday afternoon.

The win is the third straight for the Tomcats, and the eighth of the season- putting them in a tie with the 1998-99 Thiel men's tennis team for most wins in a single season in program history.

Parks picked up his seventh win of the season with his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kevin Bartkus. The duo of Parks and McAndrew improved to 8-4 with their 8-5 win over Bartkus and Brian Schultz.

Shun Kogai (Tokyo, Japan/) picked up his sixth singles win of the season with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 win over Chao Hsuan Liu at four singles and Yosief Woldegebriel (Hartsville, Pa./William Tennent) picked up his fifth win of the season at six singles with a 10-3 win over Sebastian Bonifasi.

Thiel (8-4) went into the singles matches with a 2-1 advantage before Penn State Altoona (3-3) used a win at three singles to trim the Tomcat lead to 4-2 after three singles flights. The Tomcats picked up wins in two of the final three singles matches to secure the 6-3 victory.

The Tomcats are scheduled to return to action on Friday, April 5 against PAC rival Grove City College (3:30 p.m.)
