Thiel men's tennis team ups winning streak to five matches

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's tennis team won its third-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Monday when the Tomcats took down Bethany 6-3.
 
The Tomcats (13-5, 4-2) took two-of-three doubles matches and closed up the day by beating their Bison (4-10, 1-6) counterparts in four-of-six singles contests. Thiel's team victory got started with wins at second and third doubles. Seniors Shun Kogai (Tokyo, Japan/) and Shinjiro Todaka (Tokyo, Japan/Hyuga-gakuin ) got things rolling by picking up a 9-7 victory at the number-two spot. Freshmen Logan Sturgeon and Trevor Fancher scored the home team's other doubles win by an 8-4 score.
 
Thiel's first individual triumph came courtesy of Richard Parks (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), who won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at one singles. Collin McAndrew (Dayton, Ohio/General McLane) picked up a win in straight sets, winning 6-0, 7-6 at two singles. Todaka also won in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) at five singles, as did Yosief Woldegebriel (Hartsville, Pa./William Tennent), who picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at the number-six spot.
 
The Tomcats are back in action Tuesday to take on Waynesburg University in their final regular-season match of 2013. The match, to be played in Coraopolis, Pa. is set to start at 1 p.m.
