Tomcat men's basketball completes season sweep of Titans with 66-62 win

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team held on to defeat the Westminster Titans at Beeghly Gymnasium Wednesday night, 66-62, in a key Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.

The Tomcats trailed by as many as seven in the first half, and went into the half trailing the Titans, 32-31. Thiel went on a 12-0 run to open the second half, taking a 43-32 lead with 15:29 remaining in the contest.

The game went back and forth from that point forward, with the Titans cutting the Thiel lead to 56-54 with five minutes to play.

After an Adam Carswell lay-up again brought the Titans to within two points, 62-60, with just .51 seconds to play, Westminster was forced to foul with the hopes of the Tomcats missing at least one basket to make it a one possession game. No such luck for the visitors, as Thiel's Kamran McCaskill (Carol City, Fla./Miami Beach) and Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) each rose to the occasion, with both sinking a pair of clutch free throws to give the Tomcats a much needed PAC win in front of the home crowd.

With the win, the Tomcats swept the regular season series with the Titans, having pulled out a 75-60 win at
Westminster on December 5, 2012. It also extends Thiel's winning streak over the Titans to six games.

Harvey paced the Tomcats with 14 points and five assists, followed by McCaskill, who finished with 13 points.

A.J. Forbes (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach) posted a double-double for Thiel, finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists while Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and added eight points.

The Tomcats won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Titans 44-to-32, while also outshooting the Titans from the field, 40.7%-to-32.8% and the free throw line, 80%-to-70.6%.

Thiel (9-7; 6-4 PAC) travels to Washington and Jefferson on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest.
