Tomcats Erase 13-Point Second Half Defecit To Defeat Golden Tornadoes 78-75

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Tomcat men's basketball team erased a 13-point second half deficit as they defeated the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College 78-75 on Wednesday night in Beaver Falls.

Geneva came out of the gates quickly as four different Golden Tornadoes scored in the in the first six minutes to take a 15-5 lead to open the game. Thiel would then go on a seven point run led by two baskets from Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) to cut the lead to three at 19-16 with 10:47 remaining in the first half. Thiel could not take over the lead in the half however, and went into the locker room down 43-36.

In the start of the second half, Geneva extended their lead to 13 points before the Tomcats began to chip away at the lead. With the Golden Tornadoes up 8 points, the Tomcats went on a 9-0 run led by five points from Rozenblad, including the dunk at the 12:10 mark that gave Thiel its first lead of the contest.

For the rest of the contest, the Tomcats and Golden Tornadoes would go back and forth and Geneva took a one point lead on a layup by Lambros Svingos with 1:08 remaining in the game. Thiel would take the lead back 27 seconds later on two free-throws by Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic). After a good defensive stand by the Tomcats, Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) sealed the win with two free-throws to give the Tomcats the three-point victory 78-75. The Harvey free-throws marked his 13th and 14th of the contest, the most since Joe Herrmann made 13-of-15 against Waynesburg in 2007.

Offensively, the Tomcats were lead by three players in double figures including Rozenblad's 20, 19 by Adams, and 16 points by Harvey. As a team, Thiel outshot Geneva 27-9 from the free throw line in the victory.

The Tomcat's next contest will be at home against the Bison of Bethany College on Saturday. The game is scheduled to immediately follow the women's game which begins at 1 p.m.
