CLEVELAND, Ohio –
Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) became just the fifth Tomcat wrestler to earn 100 career victories on Saturday, finishing 3-0 and helping Thiel to a 3-0 dual meet mark at Case Western Reserve University's annual Si Ostrach Meet.
Thiel (9-6) opened the day with a 27-10 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), which was followed by a 40-9 win over the host Spartans and a 39-9 win over Muskingum.
Brown improved to 102-24 overall and 32-1 this season in fashion, earning a 22-9 major decision win against RIT's Dan Haughton, registering a pinfall victory of CWRU's Frank Hu (1:13), and posting a 21-7 major decision victory over Patrick McKernan of Muskingum.
"As with every freshman there is a lot uncertainty about what their legacy is eventually going to be. From day one we reconized Corey was special. Since stepping on campus we've known there was not a question about his work ethic and determination. I believe that self-confidence separates the good ones from the great ones, and we saw Corey's commitment and confidence in himself early on in his career and he hasn't looked back. Corey is a very goal oriented individual and the goal of becoming Thiel's first wrestling national champion is really all he has left to accomplish,” said Thurber.
Brown, the third Tomcat wrestler to hit the century mark under head coach
Craig Thurber, joins Kyle Brown '07 and Corey Murphy '07. Former coach Mark Vennis helped guide Tomcat greats Mike Lewis and Sal Jafarace to 100-plus career victories.
“Winning 100 matches at this level is a very high honor with only five in the history of this College. As for the three I've had the pleasure to work with – Corey Murphy, Kyle Brown, and
Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) –we always joke that we took Murphy's first name and Kyle's last name and made
Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), so he had to be good. Besides the obvious all three are ultra-competitive, worked very hard at getting better each day by organizing early morning workouts, participating in extra workouts with Coach Linn, and staying healthy and positive throughout the whole process. It has been a lot of fun for me to coach Corey and see him accomplish so much, both in and out of the classroom. We are all very proud of him and are anxious to see what's in store over the next few weeks,” said Thurber.
Jacob Lowry (Smithfield, Pa./Albert Gallatin) finished 3-0 at 174 pounds, posting a pair of technical falls and a pin fall victory. He earned a 19-3 tech. fall win (5:13) against RIT's Ben Johnstone before notching a 20-4 tech. fall (3:50) victory against CWRU's Kurtis Jensen. Lowry finished his terrific day with win by fall (2:07) against Muskingum's Robert Powell.
Jerry Cramer (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville) went 3-0 at 141 pounds, wrestling to a 12-3 major decision victory against RIT's Jake Harvey and earning a 3-2 decision against Muskingum's Brock Yackey. Cramer saw a forfeit in his match against CWRU.

Jerrold Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) finished 2-0 at 165 pounds for the Tomcats, posting a 7-5 overtime decision against CWRU's Kyle Weaver and winning by pin fall (1:12) against Ronnie Harper of Muskingum.
