MONACA, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker Monday afternoon, falling to Penn State Beaver, 63-60. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 6-4 on the year.
In a game that featured five ties and six lead changes, Thiel rallied from six down with .33 seconds to play and pulled within three on an
Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) free throw 14 seconds later.
After Markes Royster of Penn State Beaver missed both free throws with eight seconds to play, the Tomcats turned a
Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) defensive rebound into a potential game-winning scoring opportunity, but a
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) three-pointer with four seconds remaining was off target.
Trotty generated the bulk of Thiel's offense, registering his second double-double of the season, scoring a team-best 17 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
McKinney also turned in a double-double of his own, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Harvey was the third and final Tomcat to score in double figures, as he had 15 points on four-of-eight shooting, including six-of-eight from the charity stripe.
Thiel also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Lions 37-to-24.
The Lions were paced offensively by Nick Miller, who scored a game-high 20 points.
Thiel returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Vincent at 8 p.m.
