GREENVILLE, Pa. —
Kamran McCaskill (Carol City, Fla./Miami Beach) scored a career-high 38 points on 17-of-20 shooting as Thiel cruised to a 91-79 win over visiting Geneva in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
McCaskill's 38 points were the most by a Tomcat since Feb. 15, 2006 when Damien Williams put up 42 points against Westminster College.
The Tomcats never trailed during their PAC opener and led by as many as 32 points in the second half, improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. It is the first time since Franklin D. Roosevelt was in the White House in 1934-35 that a Tomcat team has started a season 4-0, and only the third time in the program's 96-year history they have done so.
The Golden Tornadoes narrowed the Tomcat lead down to ten points with 5:32 remaining but that was as close as they got, as the Thiel defense was too much down the stretch and sealed the victory for the home team.
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) and R.J Brownlee each added 11 points, while
A.J. Forbes (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach) led the team with nine rebounds.
The aforementioned Tomcat defense forced 20 total turnovers and corralled 12 steals in the win, while dominating the glass, outrebounding the Golden Tornadoes 40-to-28.
Jordan Harbison led the way for the Golden Tornadoes as he finished with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the three-point line. Matt Lorello added 18 points while Jacob Jaros and Pat Johnson also reached double-digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Tomcats will return to action Saturday with a PAC match-up against Washington and Jefferson College. The two teams are set to tipoff at 4 p.m.
