GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcats ran their regular-season home win streak to 17 on Saturday afternoon, defeating Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University 66-48 at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) led the Tomcats in the victory with a 16-point, 17-rebound effort.
Saturday's victory was also Thiel's seventh-straight over the Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg's last win over Thiel was a 105-104 win in Greenville on December 3, 2008.
The double-double was Rozenblad's sixth of the season and 27th of his career, while his 17 rebounds were a season best. He recorded a career-high 18 rebounds in a 77-64 win over Westminster College on January 12, 2011.
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) finished with 11 points and five rebounds while
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) added 10 points and tied a season high with eight assists.
Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) chipped in with 10 points and a career-high seven rebounds.
Thiel (12-4, 9-0 PAC) shot 41.0 percent (25-61) from the floor but converted on just 11-of-20 (55.0%) of their opportunities at the free throw line. They also outrebounded the opposing Yellow Jackets 47-43.
Waynesburg (4-14, 1-8 PAC) saw 12 of its 14 players score in the contest, with Jason Probst leading the way with eight points. Jacob Fleegle chipped in with seven points, three rebounds, and three assists while Lou Galante added six points and four rebounds. The Yellow Jackets finished just 16-of-61 (26.2%) from the field, including 7-of-30 (23.3%) in the second half.
James Allenby's layup with just over seven to play in the opening period gave the visitors a 22-20 advantage. The Tomcats put together a 10-0 run covering the next 4:07 to assume a 10-point lead (32-22). Kenny Klase's three with 2:37 remaining in the first cut Thiel's lead to seven, 32-25, but McKinney followed with a jumper at the 2:20 mark to close out the first half scoring and give the Tomcats a 34-25 edge going into the break.
Thiel used an 18-7 run to push out to a 20-point lead, 52-32, with 8:39 to play and watched its lead grow to as many as 23 before securing the 18-point victory.
The Tomcats will look to stretch their PAC mark to 10-0 on Wednesday, January 25 when they travel to conference rival Washington & Jefferson College. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
