Greensburg, Pa. — The Thiel College men's soccer team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with three second half goals to defeat The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg by a score of 3-1.
The Bobcats came out strong as they out shot the Tomcats 9-5 in the first half and were able to score the first goal of the game with just five minutes to go in the frame as forward Alex Leonard connected off an assist by Matt Papinchak to make the score 1-0 heading into the half.
The Tomcats adjusted well in half number two and were able to notch three goals. The tying strike came from sophomore midfielder
Luke Mesing (Freedom, Pa./Freedom ) at the 67-minute mark on a shot from 30 yards out to make the score 1-1. Twelve minutes later, Luke's twin brother, sophomore defender
Tanner Mesing (Freedom, Pa./Freedom) hit the back of the net off a pass from freshman
Yosief Woldegebriel (Warmister, Pa./William Tennent) to give the Tomcats a 2-1 lead. Thiel would then add one more score off the foot of freshman midfielder
Matt Thompson (Saint Petersburg, Fla./Admiral Farragut) to give Thiel the 3-1 final and their third victory of the season.
After giving up the initial goal, sophomore keeper
Andrew Hindman (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) shut the door on the Bobcats, making eight saves in his second victory of the season.
The Tomcats will once again be in action on Wednesday, September 14 as they return to Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field to take on La Roche College. The contest will immediately follow the women's match which begins at 3 p.m.
