Kravec Wins Javelin at Muskingum Duals

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - Thiel sophomore Cassidy Kravec (North Huntingdon, Pa., Norwin)beat out 10 other competitors to win the javelin at the Muskingum Duals in New Concord, Ohio.

Kravec's throw of of 31.22m easily outdistanced the rest of the field. The Tomcats fared well in the event as Conner Radgowski (Library, Pa., South Park) finished second with a throw of 30.00m.

Two other Thiel women finished with runner-up performances, both in distance events. Emily Petrak (Butler, Pa, Butler Area) took second in the 800-meter run while Valerie White (Pittsburgh, Pa., Langley) did the same in the 5000-meter run.

Other highlights for the Thiel women included Moriah Monroe (Youngstown, Ohio, Fitch) (seventh in the 200), Clare Rech (Austintown, Ohio, Fitch) (sixth in the 5000), Joy Metzler (Industry, Pa., Western Beaver) (third in the shot put) and Kravec (eighth in the discus). 

Thiel head coach Steve Carr was particularly pleased with the effort of Can Cui (Inner Mongolia, China), who turned in a fifth-place performance in the 100-meter dash.

On the men's side, three different Tomcats posted runner-up finishes. Scott Stano (Erie, Pa., Cathedral Prep.) was second in the javelin, Richard Peterson (Meadville, Pa.)took second in the 5000 and Regis Wagner (Collegeville, Pa., Perkiomen Valley) was second in the 1,500. 

Two Tomcat men finished third, Bobby Hritz (Parma Heights, Ohio, North Royalton) in the 110 hurdles and Derek Workman (Valencia, Pa., Mars)in the 800. Other notable performances included Ethan Rowe (Fairmont City, Pa., Redbank Valley) (ninth in the 100 and 200), Jonathan Hogan (Somerset, Pa., Somerset) (10th in the 200), Brendan DuLaney (New Windsor, Md., Westminster) (fifth in the 1,500), Hritz (fifth in the high jump and Ron Edison (New Kensington, Pa., Valley ) (eighth in the long jump).

Thiel will next compete at the Wheeling Jesuit Bill Van Horne Invitational on Saturday.
