Trip to PAC Championship on the Line Thursday

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team is looking to claim a spot in the 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament final for the first time since 2003 as the top-seeded Tomcats play host to fifth-seeded Thomas More College Thursday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Thursday's game will be the third between the Saints (13-13) and the Tomcats (19-6) this season, with Thiel claiming victories in each by a combined four points. Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) finished with 14 points and six rebounds in a 55-52 home win on Jan. 15, while Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) netted a career-high 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting in their 86-85 regular-season finale win on Feb. 16 in Crestview Hills, Ky.

Thiel is just 3-9 all-time against Thomas More and, prior to this season, had dropped four in a row against the Saints.

Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa., George Junior Republic) sparked Tuesday's 73-63 win over eighth-seeded Waynesburg University with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Including Adams, four players reached double-figures in scoring for the Tomcats in the opening-round affair. Rozenblad registered his 12th double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa., New Castle) tied his career high with 16 points, while Lance Randall (Canfield, Ohio, Ursuline) contributed 12 points. Thiel finished with a 46-25 advantage against Waynesburg on the boards, resulting in 17 second-chance points.

Colt Stafford made two free-throws with just 17.9-seconds remaining in the game to lead Thomas More to a 58-57 upset victory over fourth-seeded Washington & Jefferson College in another Tuesday quarterfinal matchup. Reaching double-figure scoring for the Saints were Aaron Miller with 18 points, Daniel Whelan with 12 and Stafford with 10. Stafford led the Saints on the boards with a game-high-tying seven rebounds, while Spencer Berlekamp led the team in assists with four.

Thiel, a perfect 11-0 at Beeghly Gymnasium (17 of last 19 at home) and riding a seven-game win streak, moved from the sixth to fifth spot on the Feb. 23 NCAA Division III regional rankings.

The Tomcats last played in the PAC Championship Tournament final on March 1, 2003 when the then-top seeded Tomcats dropped a 60-59 heartbreaker to second-seeded Grove City College. The winner of the PAC Basketball Championship Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament, set to begin the weekend of March 3-5, 2011.
