Trotty’s Efficient Evening Leads to Tomcat’s 78-61 Win at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) had the most impressive performance of his Tomcat career in Wednesday's 78-61 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Westminster College at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Trotty finished with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go along with 17 rebounds to lead the Tomcats. His 17 boards are the most for a Tomcat since Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) notched 18 in Thiel's 77-64 victory over Westminster on Jan. 11 at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Rozenblad finished with 21 points and eight rebounds while Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) totaled eight points, five rebounds, and four assists in the win.

Thiel (5-2, 3-0) shot a season-best 63.3 percent (31-49) from the field and finished with a commanding 45-23 advantage in rebounds. The Tomcat bench also outscored the Titan bench by a 27-12 margin.

Ben Donlow totaled 19 points and 11 rebounds for Westminster (2-5, 1-2). Doug Smith added 17 points while Kendall Hunter and Ron Martino finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Titans shot 33.3 percent (23-69) from the field and converted on 28.6 percent (8-28) of their three-point attempts. They managed 25 points off of 28 Tomcat turnovers.

After a back-and-forth start to the first Martino's layup with 7:33 to go before the half cut Thiel's lead down to five, 17-12, but the Tomcats rattled off 11 straight over the ensuing 2:37 to extend their lead to 16, 28-12, with 4:50 to play. Trotty's layup with 15 seconds to go helped the Tomcats carry a 37-23 lead heading into the half.

A Donlow layup with just under nine to go trimmed Thiel's lead to just six, 55-49, but the Tomcats outscored the Titans 23-12 down the stretch in registering the 17-point win.

Thiel returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when it hosts PAC rival Saint Vincent College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
