Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) scored a career-best 21 points as Thiel ran away with a 86-69 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over visiting Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium.
McKinney scored his 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line. He added five rebounds and a pair of blocks in the lopsided win. McKinney's previous career high was 14, scored in the Tomcats' 83-59 victory at Waynesburg University on November 30.
Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) added 15 points and five assists in 21 minutes off of the Tomcat bench, while
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. AJ Forbes finished with eight points, eight assists, six rebounds, and a pair of blocks.
The Tomcats (6-2, 4-0) shot 55.6 percent (30-54) the floor and converted on a season-high 20-of-21 (95.2%) of their opportunities at the charity stripe while committing a season-low 11 turnovers. Head coach
Tim Loomis managed to play all 17 members of the Tomcat program and saw his bench outscore their Bearcat counterparts 34-20 in the win.
Dennis Bassich finished with 16 points, three assists, and two rebounds to lead Saint Vincent (5-3, 1-2). Armani Fountain added 10 points and four rebounds while Tauvon Pettiford chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, and a pair of blocks.
The Bearcats shot 38.7 percent (24-62) from the floor despite turning the ball over just eight times.
The visitors jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and were tied at 18-18 with Thiel with just over nine minutes to go in the first.
The Tomcats rattled off seven-straight points, capped by a Kamran McKaskill three-pointer with 7:08 to go, to assume a 25-18 lead and went into the break leading the Bearcats 40-30.
Thiel stretched its second half lead to as many as 29 before their bench was able to secure the 17-point win.
The Tomcats will host Allegheny College on Tuesday, December 13 at 7 p.m. before beginning their holiday break.
