Tomcats Win Seventh Straight Home Game

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Unlike the first meeting between the two teams, Thiel's men's basketball team didn't let Penn State Beaver keep it close Monday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Instead, the Tomcats raced out to a 12-0 lead on their way to a 69-44 blowout win over the Lions. They went up 10-0 3:34 into the game and didn't let the lead fall below double-figures for the remainder of the game.

The win stretches the Tomcats home winning streak to seven games, the longest in school history. Overall, they are riding a six-game win streak.

In Thiel's nine-point win over Penn State Beaver earlier this season, the Tomcats led by just one point at the half.

Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) and Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa., George Junior Republic) nailed 3-pointers in the first 1:11 of the game. Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) followed with a pair of buckets and Aundra Jones (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) added a layup to end the Tomcats' game-opening run.

Penn State Beaver finally scored on a layup by Tony Houghton, ending a scoreless drought that covered the first 6:35 of the game. Adams immediately responded to Houghton's bucket with a 3-pointer on the next possession and Thiel led 15-2.

The Tomcats never let up, extending their lead to 17 at the half.

The second half started similar to the first as Thiel started it with a 10-0 run. Trotty scored the first four points and Rozenblad finished it with two 3-pointers to give the Tomcats a 27-point advantage. They would eventually lead by as much as 35.

Trotty continued to be an efficient player on the offensive side of the floor, making the most of his seven shot attempts. He hit five of them and made all four of his free throw attempts for 14 points while also pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.

Trotty's rebound total helped the Tomcats out-rebound the Lions 42-26, which factored in to Thiel's 19-6 advantage in second-chance points.

Playing limited minutes because of the large lead, Rozenblad's numbers weren't as gaudy as usual, but he still managed to lead all scorers with 15 points. Adams hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points. Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) led a solid bench effort with seven points. Lance Randall (Canfield, Ohio, Ursuline) chipped in with six rebounds and four assists.

Houghton was the only Penn State Beaver player to reach double-figures with his 12 points. The 44 points the Lions scored were the fewest given up by the Tomcats since a 71-44 win over Oberlin in the 1992-93 season.

Thiel will resume its conference schedule this Saturday with an away game at Saint Vincent. Currently, the Tomcats are unbeaten at 7-0 and hold a two-game lead with five games left to play against Presidents' Athletic Conference opponents.
