Men Push Win Streak to Five With 55-52 Victory Over Thomas More

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball squad won its fifth-straight contest and ran its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) record to 7-0 with its 55-52 victory over the visiting Saints of Thomas More College Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium. A pair of free throws by Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa., George Junior Republic) with 14 seconds to play proved to be key in securing the three-point win.

Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) had a team-high 14 points and six rebounds while Lance Randall (Canfield, Ohio, Ursuline) added 10 points and six rebounds. Adams finished with six points, six assists, and five rebounds.

Colt Stafford led Thomas More (8-8, 4-2) with 18 points and six rebounds. Brian Muse added 16 points and four rebounds while Aaron Miller chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

Thiel (11-4, 7-0), trailing at the half for the third time this season against a conference opponent, tied the game at 31-31 on a Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) jumper with just under 15 minutes remaining. The McKinney jumper ignited a 16-6 Tomcat run that was capped by a traditional three-point play by Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) which extended Thiel's lead to 10, 47-37, with 5:48 to play. Randall's free throws at the 5:11 mark pushed the Tomcat lead back to 10, 49-39. The Saints answered with a 10-2 run covering the following 3:23 to get back to within two, 51-49, on a Muse layup with 1:48 remaining.

A Stafford layup with 42 seconds to play cut Thiel's lead to one, 53-52, before Adams' two free throws led to the three-point advantage, forcing an off-balance three by Saints at the buzzer that went wide.

In a game that featured the top two programs in the conference, the Tomcats and Saints combined to shoot just 59 percent (26-44) from the free throw line, 38 percent (39-103) from the field, and 13 percent (3-22) from three-point range. Thiel finished the day 1-for-12 from beyond the arc.

Despite scoring a season-low 55 points the Tomcats limited the Saints to 52, their own season low scoring output.

Thiel returns to action on Monday, Jan. 17 when it plays host to Penn State Beaver. Tipoff at Beeghly Gymnasium is scheduled for 8 p.m.
