Thiel routes Grove City to even PAC record at 2-2

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 9, 2010) – The Thiel College men's basketball team routed its second-consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent Saturday afternoon, this time taking down the Grove City Wolverines, 86-53.

Thiel improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the league, while Grove City – who entered the game tied for first place – fell to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the PAC.

Junior guard Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) keyed the dominating Thiel effort by tossing in a game-high 23 points and dishing out four assists while committing just one turnover.

Adams turned in a fantastic performance from behind the three-point arc, going 6-for-8. Less a single converted free throw, every one of Adams' points came from the floor.

Grove City jumped out to an early, 5-0, lead 30 seconds into the contest and stayed relatively even with the Tomcats until a Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) jumper gave Thiel a, 16-15, lead at the 13 minute mark. Thiel slowly added to its lead and carried a, 40-31, advantage into the intermission.

Thiel opened the second half with an, 18-6, run to put the Tomcats up by 21 and put any doubt of the outcome to rest – much to the delight of the raucous crowd of 403 on hand.

In addition to Adams, three other members of the Thiel starting lineup scored in double figures: Rozenblad scored 15, while Aundra Jones (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) and Sean Devinney (Arsenal, Pa./Central Catholic) notched 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Thiel also held a sizable advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Wolverines, 33-to-16. The Tomcats limited Grove City to just three offensive boards, which translated into two points.

Thiel scored nine second chance points but feasted on Wolverine miscues, turning 16 GCC turnovers into 21 points.

The Tomcats travel to Westminster on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. contest.
