Records Fall at Kent

KENT, Ohio (December 13, 2009) -- Several members of the Thiel College men's indoor track and field team competed Saturday at the Kent State Golden Gala.

Nick Youngblood (Hadley, Pa./Greenville) started the day with a 7.44 in the 60 meter dash.

Alex Eaton (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) and Ethan Rowe (Fairmont City, Pa./Redbank Valley) then ran 49.52 (Eaton) and 52.26 (Rowe) in the 400m.  Eaton placed 10th in a field of 60 which was made up of mostly division 1 and 2 schools.

Eaton and Rowe followed that perfomance by running 22.48 (Eaton) and 23.80 (Rowe).

Finally Sophmore, Richard Peterson (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville), set a school record in the 3000m by running a 9:17.48 eclipsing the previous record of 9:30.5 set by Jay Goul in 1992.

"Richard has been training hard since cross country ended just about a month ago," said Thiel head coach Steve Carr.  "His focus and work ethic has been excellent.  We had a feeling that he could break the record today."

"[Former] coach [Kevin] Pool did a great job throughout the cross country season preparing him for this race so all that he had to do was go out there and get it.  That what he did.  We are all proud of him for this accomplishment and look for great things to come from him in the future."
