Greenville, Pa (January 31, 2008) -- The House was definitly full of thrills on Saturday but, the Thiel College women's basketball team came up short in overtime, losing to the Chatham Cougar 83-86.
Throughout the first 40 minutes of action the 'Cats and the Cougars went back and forth with the lead changing hands a total of 13 times. Every time Chatham made a run Thiel would make a run to pull the game back to even and vice versa.
An Allason Holt free throw, at the 10-second mark of the second half, put the Cougars ahead by two with thoughts of victory ringing in their heads, until an
Amber Bodrick (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) pass found the open hands of freshman sensation,
Towanda-Michelle Warren (Solon, OH/Solon), leading to a last second layup taking the game into bonus time.
In overtime, it was more of the same with the two teams matching each other point for point, until a Barb Petty trifecta, that put the Cougars up by 80-77, served as the dagger to the Tomcat's hopes for victory.
The Tomcats were lead by outstanding performances by Warren and Bodrick. Each player worked their way to double-doubles, Warren scoring 23 points, grabbing 11 boards and dishing out 5 assists, while Bodrick piled on 24 points, tallied 15 rebounds and dropped 6 dimes. Freshman guard,
Rianne Thornton (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) played the role of defensive stopper with five steals, a blocked shot and a handful of forced turnovers.
The Cougars had their fairshare of outstanding efforts as three players reached the 20-point mark. Courtney Smith and Kayla Hilko both scored 22, while Petty dropped in 20.
The Tomcats will try to reverse their bad luck at home when they face the Bethany Bison on Feb. 4 a 6 p.m.
