BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College men's basketball team had three players score in double digits, but it wasn't enough to snap an eight-game skid against Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. In the end, the Bison hung on for a 77-70 win.
Thiel did however manage to shake a series of lackluster performances by playing their conference foe tight for most of the contest. Thiel led by as many as six points during the game, while Bethany's largest lead of the game was the final seven-point margin.
Nick Sefscik (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler) put together his third solid outing in a row, scoring 17 points.
Keebo Dowe (Martinsburg, W. Va./Edison Twp.), who has also been hot as of late, picked up a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Cory Chaffee (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) tossed in twelve points for the Tomcats, including a perfect four-for-four night from the free throw line.
As a team, Thiel converted on 11 of 12 opportunities from the foul line.
Joe Testa led paced the Bison with 16 points. In all, four Bethany players scored in double figures.
Bethany's efficiency in converting Thiel turnovers into points doomed the Tomcats, as they watched 24 miscues turn into 18 Bison points. Off the bench, Bethany outscored Thiel 35 to 18.
Thiel 1-10 (0-3 PAC) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Washington & Jefferson.
