New Wilmington, Pa. (January 14, 2009) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team dropped their first road game since November to the Westminster Titans, in a 76-70 overtime thriller.
In the first half, the 'Cats just couldn't seem to knock down shots inside the three-point line, resulting in a 29%shooting percentage just through the first 20 minutes of action. However, Thiel managed to keep things close by shooting over 55% from beyond the arc, and keeping their turnovers to a minimum.
The second half saw the Titans trying to leave Thiel in the dust, jumping out to as much as a ten-point lead. But, no matter what Westminster did, the Tomcats managed to thwart every run, culminating with Thiel taking a 62-59 lead with less than a minute to go. Westminster managed to knot things up a 62-62 off a three-point shot by guard, Gina Brunetti, with only 24 ticks left in the contest. Thiel was able to get off two shots in the waning seconds of regulation, but the just couldn't convert.
Overtime was all Westminster as the outscored the 'Cats 14-8, led Amy Dolsak who knocked down five free throws to close things out.
Amber Bodrick (Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) and
Towanda-Michelle Warren (Solon, OH/Solon) each contributed a team-high 16 points for the Tomcats, while senior guard
Jena Cook (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) continued her hot streak scoring 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three.
The Titans were lead by Amy Dolsak who had a monster game scoring a game-high 25 points and grabbing 18 boards, and Brunetti who dropped in 20 points.
The Thiel women will be looking to bring an end to their recent skid, when the come to back to Greenville to face the Geneva College Golden Tornados Saturday, January 17.
