SECOND HALF RUNS HELP THOMAS MORE DOWN THIEL 96-84

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ken. (Dec. 5) -- Thomas More College used a pair of second half scoring runs to help post a 96-84 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over visiting Thiel College Wednesday evening.

The Saints (4-3, 2-0) managed second half runs of 14-4 and 19-7 to hand the Tomcats (4-2, 1-1) the loss. Thiel, despite shooting 59.5 percent (25-52) from the field, saw the Saints convert on just 46.7 percent (28-60) of their field goal attempts but were able to knock down 14-of-24 three-point attempts (58.3%).

Senior forward Joe Herrmann (Hartstown/Jamestown) (Hartstown/Jamestown) and freshman guard Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) (Philadelphia/George Junior Republic) led four Thiel players in double figures as each finished with 19 points. Herrmann also finished with eight rebounds while Adams added five rebounds and seven assists. Sophomore guard Cory Chaffee (Erie/Villa Maria) chipped in with 15 while junior guard Brandon Mirizio (West Middlesex/Kennedy Catholic) (West Middlesex/Kennedy Catholic) added 10.

Thomas More finished with five players in double figures. Mark Tinklenberg totaled 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while Daniel Ellis finished with 17 points, converting on 4-of-5 three-point attempts.

Thiel, who led by as many as six in the first half, surrendered a late three to Ellis to give the Saints a 37-35 lead going into the break. Herrmann's layup with 14:46 to play in the second gave the Tomcats a 45-44 advantage prior to the Saints using a 14-4 scoring outbreak to assume a 63-53 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining. The Tomcats were able to chip the lead down to six (63-67) with 8:41 to play, but the Saints responded with a 19-7 scoring run to jump back in front by 19 (82-63) just over four minutes to play.

Thiel will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 11 when it hosts non-conference rival Allegheny College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
