THIEL'S HERRMANN SCORES FINAL 11 FOR TOMCATS IN 59-55 WIN OVER ALLEGHENY

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 11) -- Thiel College senior forward Joe Herrmann (Hartstown/Jamestown) (Hartstown/Jamestown) finished with a game-high 19 points, including the final 11 straight for the Tomcats, in their 59-55 victory over non-conference rival Allegheny College Tuesday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium. The win for the Tomcats snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Gators.

Herrmann finished 4-of-9 from the field and went 11-for-11 from the free throw line while adding four rebounds, three blocks and three steals. 13 of his 19 points came in the second half. Junior forward Keebo Dowe (Martinsburg, W. Va./Edison Twp.) (Martinsburg, W. Va./Edison Twp.) added 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of blocks. The Tomcats (5-2) shot a season worst 43.5 percent (20-46) from the floor but was able to convert on 18-of-21 free throw opportunities. The Tomcats also finished with 34-29 edge on the glass.

Charlie Jaicks led three Gators (6-3) in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Ben Torsney added 12 while Craig Devinney chipped in with 11 and six rebounds. The Gators were held to just 37.3 percent (19-51) shooting from the floor.

Thiel managed to push its lead to as many as 10 (26-16) in the opening half and went into the break with a 31-24 lead. Allegheny started the second period with a 12-4 run and grabbed a 36-35 lead on a George Raftis lay up with 12:49 remaining. The squads exchanged leads until Herrmann converted on a pair of free throws with 59 seconds to play to tie the game at 50-50. Herrmann's three-point play with 22 seconds left stretched their lead to three, 53-50, before he knocked down six straight free throws to close out the game.

The Tomcats will return to action following the holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 29 when they travel to the Defiance College Purple & Gold Tournament. The Tomcats open with the host Yellow Jackets at 8 p.m.
