GROVE CITY, Pa. (Sept. 18) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team secured a 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 sweep of Penn College Friday evening in the Grove City Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament from the Grove City Intramural Facility.
The Tomcats rise to 3-2 and have now won five consecutive matches played at Grove City. The Wildcats dip to a measly 0-11.
After trailing 8-1 and 11-4 in set one, Thiel took advantage of a bevy of Penn errors to lead 13-11 with a 9-0 spurt. The Wildcats answered back with 4 before a 6-0 Thiel run with three
Jordan Yoder (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) aces and an
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) kill made it 19-15 Cats. Thiel played sideout ball the rest of the way to take set one.
Yoder recorded a contest- and career-high 21 digs along with a career- and match-most five aces. DeLattre led all attackers with eight kills on .500 and a career-high-tying four aces.
A 5-0 Thiel run that saw DeLattre get all four of her aces made it 10-4 Cats in set two. A pair of
Addi Vagi (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) kills along with an ace from
Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) made it 18-9 Thiel. An
Ava Byer (Hollsopple, Pa./Canemaugh Township Area) kill made it 23-10 before a
Madalyn Dehart (Foxburgh, Pa./Allegheny-Clarion) kill sealed the frame for Thiel.
Byer finished with six kills while Vagi had four on .800 with a match-high 10 assists. Williams had nine digs and two aces while Dehart logged her first collegiate kill.

Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) kill along with an
Owen Hansen (Lyman, Wyo./Lyman) ace made it 18-16 Cats in set three. Two more kills from Stephens with a
Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) ace sandwiched between gave the Cats the match.
Stephens recorded five kills while Hansen had an ace and kill each. Wilson added four digs and an ace.
Hannah Myers (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy Catholic) added three kills while
Kristina Varion (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) had two.
Sierra Zelenak (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Monroe Falls) dished out eight helpers while
Rian Owens (Neshannock, Pa./Neshannock) had three. The Tomcats held edges in digs (47-40) and aces (13-7).
Thiel caps the Grove City Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament tomorrow with a 2 p.m. tilt against Case Western Reserve.
