GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Thiel College softball team battled Hiram in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play but ultimately lost 5-3 and 7-4 in their doubleheader at home Saturday afternoon.
Thiel drops to 8-16 overall (2-10 PAC) as Hiram picks up their seventh conference win (8-12 overall).
Game 1: Thiel 3, Hiram 5
A sixth inning rally from the Terrier's to tie the game and a few wild pitched tp extend their lead to 5-3 brought them home the late victory.
In the fourth frame, Thiel's
Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) both tripled to get runners on the bags, and bring them to the plate. The Blue and Gold took the lead for the first time of the day.
Hiram got on the board first with one run in the starting frame to force Thiel to get the bats swinging.
Herman led the attack with two hits, as Heid and
Madison Hufford (Cortland, Ohio/Mathews) each had one.
Ava Gilmore (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area) had an RBI and stolen base, while on the mound, Herman pitched for 5.2 innings and

Just as the first game, Hiram rallied late to overcome Thiel's lead and take home the win. With their final chance at bat, the Terriers kept their bats hot and scored two runs after notching two in the sixth.
Thiel tied the game at two a piece in the second after Merolillo singled to right field to bring
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) and
Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) around the bags. The Tomcats scored another run off an RBI single from Heid.
Heid extended their small lead to two in the fourth frame when she brought

On the mound, Fedder pitched 5.1 innings before Merolillo came in to relive again for the final 1.2.
