NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Thiel College softball team split on the day with a 3-2 win over Hilbert and a 3-1 loss to King's College Monday afternoon from the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
Game 1: Thiel 3, Hilbert 2
A single from Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) at the bottom of the fifth brought Ava Gilmore (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area) home to give the Blue and Gold the advantage heading into the final stretch. Lock down defense from the Tomcats in the sixth and seventh secured the 3-2 victory.
The Hawks tied it up at two a piece in the top of the fifth after a quiet four innings.
In the second, Thiel grabbed the 2-1 lead, capitalizing on a double from junior Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area), shifting momentum to the Blue and Gold.
Hilbert loaded the bases in just the fifth inning off a Thiel error to take the early 1-0 lead.
Gilmore led the day with two hits and two runs as Heid had a hit and an RBI.
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) picked up her first win on the mound of the 2026 season with five strikeouts and 132 pitches.
Game 2: Thiel 1, King's 3
Before four dormant innings from both teams, King's took over in the third frame with multiple single base hits that were brought in from a triple from the fifth batter.
Thiel struck first from a failed fielder's choice bunt, allowing Julia Schimizzi (Willowick, Ohio/Willoughby South) to reach first, and Heid to reach home.
Heid and Herman were the only two with hits.
Thiel is back in action Wednesday, Mar. 11 against Gwynedd Mercy (1 p.m.) and Cairn (3 p.m.) on field 11 at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
