Cats stifled by Geneva

GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 30) -- The Thiel College Softball team dropped both halves of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) twinbill with Geneva College Monday afternoon from Tomcat Park.

The Tomcats dip to 7-10 (1-4) while the Golden Tornadoes rise to 15-5 (4-2) with wins of 9-1 in the opener and opener and 9-4 in the nightcap.

Game 1 -- Thiel 1, Geneva 9 (6 Inn.)
Geneva came out the gates strong with a 4-spot in the first. Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) answered in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff home run to dead center to make ti 4-1. The visitors plated 2 more in the fourth and 3 in the sixth to spell the 9-1 final.

Heid had a hit, run and RBI each while Lilly Merolillo had a 2-for-2 showing in the nine-hole.

Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) started for Thiel and worked five innings with a pair of strikeouts as she fell to 2-5.

Game 2 -- Thiel 4, Geneva 9
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) started game-two for the Tomcats and worked the first two innings scoreless before the Golden Tornadoes clipped her for 4 in the third and 2 in the fourth to lead 6-0. Thiel took advantage of a Geneva error to get 2 back in the fourth, making it 6-2.

Thiel made a late push in the seventh, plating a pair on a Madison Hufford (Cortland, Ohio/Mathews) RBI double and a Kalina Moreno (San Antonio, Texas/Clark) ground out, but the visitors hung on for the win.

Hufford logged a hit, run, RBI and walk each as she started both ends of the doubleheader behind the plater. Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) smacked a pair of doubles and scored while Makenna Oswalt (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) was 2-for-3 with a run.
