Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. (Feb. 14) -- The Thiel College women's basketball team dropped their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to Washington and Jefferson (W&J) College 85-55 Saturday afternoon from Maenpa Court in Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel drops to 1-13 in the conference as the Presidents pick up another PAC win (12-2).
During halftime, Thiel honored the '85, '86, and '88 PAC Champions. The Tomcats of the mid-to-late 1980s authored one of the most successful eras in program history. Under the guidance of legendary head coach Gie Parsons, Thiel captured the first-ever PAC Women's Basketball Championship in 1985, repeated as league champions in 1986 and made history in 1988 by becoming the first Thiel program to earn an NCAA Tournament berth.
W&J jumped out early with a 33-10 first quarter, setting the tone with hot shooting and defensive pressure, forcing Thiel into early turnovers and the Presidents controlled the rest of the game on the offensive end.
The Tomcats shot 43% in the fourth quarter, and 100% from the free throw line in both the third and fourth.
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) guided the Blue and Gold offense with 11 points and grabbed two boards.
Emily Betsinger (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) each put up nine points, Betsinger with three rebounds and two blocks and Amory with four boards and two steals.
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) went 3-for-5 from the floor to collect seven points and a team high six rebounds.
Thiel is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 18 as they travel to Meadville, Pa. to take on Allegheny on the road at 6 p.m.
