STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 3) -- The Thiel College men's soccer team fell to Franciscan, 3-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Saturday night at Trinity Health System Field.
The Tomcats moved to 4-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in PAC play, while Franciscan improved to 2-4-3 overall and 2-0-3 in conference action.
Franciscan opened the scoring in the 26th minute.
Thiel answered early in the second half as Mitchell Strauss (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area)Â scored his fifth goal of the season at the 51st minute to even the match at 1-1.
The Barons regained the lead in the 78th minute and added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to end the score at 3-1.
Dylan Budziak (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) made eight saves for the Tomcats.
Thiel recorded seven shots, including five on goal. Strauss led Thiel with two shots, both of which were on target. Rylan Piccirilli (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville), Steven Villaneuva (Manassas, Va./Brentsville District) and Ryder Nowland (Haymarket, Va./Gainesville) each recorded a shot on goal, while Evan Haas (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) and Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) each added a shot.
The Tomcats return to action Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they host Hiram for a PAC match-up at 7:30 p.m.
